H a p p i n e s s

is found in

the organization of our backpacks

and the crinkle of fresh grass beneath our feet.

It’s found in the fast open spaces, in the never-ending trail and the cascading hills.

It’s found in the taste of oats for breakie and the smell of Dahl at dinner time.

It’s heard in the laughter around the table and in the clink of our goblets.

It sneaks into the decisions being made and the problems solved.

It’s felt by the glow of each candle and the comfort of our beanies.

It’s stored in the bottom of our coffee mugs and always, always, in the sharing of sweeties and biscuits.

It’s found inside our sleeping bags and at the end of the day when our feet slip out of our boots and into our crocs.

It’s felt in the excitement of finding a waterfall and in the stream that washes away the dirt at the end of the day.

It’s found in the delight of the mountains, in the slow pace of the path and in the quiet of the morning climb.

It’s radiates through the love that connects us and in the quirkiness that keeps us giggling.

It’s seen in the rising of the sun and heard in the silence of the eland as they look on with curiosity.

Happiness is found in the shade of the valleys,

it’s there when we look up

and it’s certainly there when we reach the top of every peak.

Happiness is found all along the journey.

And as Agnes Martin says,

It does not appear and disappear.

It’s not sometimes more and sometimes less.

But rather our awareness of it that fluctuates.

Happiness is everywhere.
