DOHA Airport

29 May 2022

Some would say I have been waiting to do this for 2 years now. But the truth is, it's been over a decade since I first dreamt of exploring solo abroad.

Why did I wait so long? I wonder myself. Perhaps, partly because of the life I slowly created in Cape Town. As each year passed, it got better and better - richer and deeper with connections, experiences, wins, losses, growth, fun. I created a home; a life I loved. Perhaps also partly because I was tentative; afraid of losing the love I thought I had or wanted. Looking back, I have slowly let go of these attachments and ideas; and l have sweetly and gently found the courage to listen to the whispers of my own heart. I know, talk about taking my time. I've realized it's something I'm pretty good at doing.

Nonetheless, here I freaking am! On the precipice of sweet-ass adventure! With my 56L backpack filled with more than I need and my heart full of hope and excitement for the possibilities and experiences that lie ahead.

I practiced making friends on the domestic flight to CT with two Xhosa peeps sitting beside me. We shared stories, all had a drink because hey, Thursday, and they helped me dream up my imaginary boyfriend incase I need him as a deterrent along the way. They suggested Rajesh when I told them I am heading for India, but I am going with Richard. (It’s funny because imagine I dated a Richard? Bridget and Richard! I giggle at the sound of it.)

Anyways, I’m popping with excitement (and a shot or two of nerves), I have just had a coffee (Costa Coffee in this airport is the one if you find yourself here) and I've already shed some happy tears!

Here. I. go! Yippieeee!

toodles!
